Relax with a clear view at “Spyglass” on the Outer Banks! Constructed in 2022, and located on the oceanfront in Corolla, this home’s unique location offers panoramic ocean views. In addition to stunning views of the ocean, this home features views of the Currituck Lighthouse from within the home. The elevated ship’s watch on the top level of the home was specifically designed to take advantage of the exclusive view of both the ocean and the lighthouse. With modern coastal decor and amenities galore, “Spyglass” will surely be the perfect setting for an unforgettable OBX vacation. The home’s living space is distributed between the main home and a guest house, connected by covered outdoor decks.
The great room on the third floor of the home features large windows on the ocean side, which allow natural light and the ocean view to fill the room. Relax and enjoy time with loved ones in the living area, which features three distinct seating areas and includes a gas fireplace for use during cooler months. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything needed to prepare meals for your entire group, including commercial-style kitchen appliances. The kitchen also includes a complete coffee bar featuring a built-in Miele Espresso Machine; just bring your favorite whole-bean coffee. Two refrigerators make storing food easy, and two dishwashers help make cleanup a breeze. The focal point of the great room is the custom boat bar that seats at least 8. Enjoy meals all together at the custom dining table that can seat up to 20 and includes a large lazy Susan. Additional seating is available at the island in the kitchen. Take your morning coffee and breakfast outside to dine al fresco under the covered patio while watching the waves roll in, rain or shine. The early risers in your group will be treated to a gorgeous Outer Banks sunrise over the ocean. There is also an uncovered deck with lounge chairs for those who want to soak up the sunshine. An additional covered reading porch can be found on the south side of the third floor. A half bathroom is conveniently located on the third level.
There are two master bedrooms on the top level, each with a private bathroom and views of the ocean. One of the bedrooms offers access to a private deck facing the Currituck Sound as well as a semi-private covered deck facing the ocean, perfect for relaxing with a good book. The other top-level bedroom offers expansive ocean views and access to the deck with seating.
The middle level of the home is a combination of common space and sleeping quarters. The home gym features a Peloton bicycle and Peloton treadmill, as well as free weights, a weight bench, and yoga mats. To reduce plastic waste and protect our oceans, the gym includes a chilled, commercial-filtered water bottle filler. The gym also includes a Keurig coffee maker and a beverage refrigerator. There are five master bedrooms on the second floor, each with a private bathroom. Four of the bedrooms offer direct ocean views. Laundry facilities can be found on the second level.
Outside on the second-floor deck facing the ocean, you’ll find various seating options, perfect for enjoying the view and salty breeze. The middle floor deck conveniently leads to the beach walkway. Along the walkway, you’ll find a sun deck that overlooks the pool area. There is also a sun deck closer to the beach at the dune’s crest, perfect for watching the pelicans fly by. In addition to the beach chairs and umbrellas set up by the cabana service, the home’s beach closet provides many convenient and fun beach items, including 16 additional beach chairs, 4 extra umbrellas, and beach games, such as bocce ball, ladder ball, custom cornhole boards, and spike ball. Four bicycles are also provided for those in your group who want to cruise through the coastal community. After a fun day at the beach, rinse the sand off in one of the two upscale outdoor showers.
The ground floor of the home was designed with fun in mind, inside and out. Take gaming to an epic level in the theater room with a dedicated HDMI port for easy gaming system connection. The theater, as well as all of the TVs in the home, offer cable channels and streaming services. Play all evening in the rec room that features an arcade game and poker table, as well as a fully equipped bar that also opens to the pool area. A full cabana bathroom connects to the interior entertainment area of the home as well as the pool area outside. The fun continues outside in the pool area, which includes a ping pong table and a covered cabana area nearby to comfortably relax while supervising all of the action in the pool. Create an OBX vacation playlist and connect to the AirPlay 2-enabled sound system, which allows you to play music in different zones: poolside, on the oceanview deck, in the rec room, kitchen, dining area, and great room.
An additional two master bedrooms can be found on the second and third levels of the guest house. Each of the bedrooms includes a private bathroom. The two bedrooms on the third floor of the guest house have access to a shared deck with comfortable seating and views of the ocean and Currituck Lighthouse. The west bedroom on the third floor features direct ocean views as well as views of the sound, perfect for watching the sunset. On the second floor of the guest house, the two master bedrooms serve as a family suite, with an interior door connecting the bedrooms to each other. Kids will love the six built-in bunk beds, each with its own nightlight and cubby with built-in USB/C charging port. Both rooms offer views of the ocean and access to a semi-private deck.
When arriving or departing the home or bringing in groceries, an elevator will assist you with unloading. A Tesla Destination Charger is also provided at the home. The full home audio allows guests to play music from their phones in different zones in the home, such as the top level outside decks, the entire top floor (except bedrooms), the gym on the second floor, the lower level entertainment area, and of course there were will be music out by the pool and cabana! The home is equipped with commercial wifi, perfect for anyone needing to work, and all TVs are set up for streaming.

"Twiddy was very easy to work with. Check in was super easy and earlier than expected. The house was better than we expected. We had 26 family members for an entire week, but never felt like we were in each others way. Having our own bathrooms made it so nice. This house was super sound proof - I never heard another toilet flush all week. The views were spectacular. We had perfect weather, never rained a drop and got hotter and hotter as the week progressed. But probably our favorite was the pool area and all the great toys, boogie boards, extra beach chairs (at least 12), pickleball paddles, football, bocce ball, etc. Also 4 really nice bikes which was such a bonus as we wanted to bring our bikes but didn't want to haul them that far. Besides everything advertised there was so much more provided. The entire family said we would definitely rent again. A few items to be aware: 1) House is right beside the public beach entrance, so a few more people than we would have hoped 2) The cabana service was nice, but some days came late and was not able to provide a good spot for us. Also, he sets the chairs under the umbrellas instead of spreading them out so other families were very close. I do wish he would have set them up and spread out so we had more room on the beach. 3) If someone is running on the Peleton treadmill, the entire house shakes. We cooked most meals at home, had plenty of space for cooking and refrigerating enough food/beer for the week. Nice cookware, tons of plates and all sorts of items in the kitchen. Extra refrigerators throughout the house were wonderful. We rented a keg but didn't pick up when we realized the kegerator is for a 1/4 keg, not big enough for a 1/2 keg."
Good Afternoon and thank you for the detailed review! We have been visiting Whalehead for 25 years and when we designed Spyglass we wanted to make sure that we provided the things that we valued most. Over the years we've gone to the beach with big family or friend groups. Dinner is a special time for everyone to come together and for this reason we commissioned a custom black walnut table where the entire group could see and talk to each other (vs. kids or sub groups being stuck at the end of a long table). The dining area with the large northern windows is also one of the few spots in the OBX where everyone from dinner has a clear view of the Lighthouse. We love how it turned out, especially the 4' diameter lazy Susan. That said, we 100% agree that we need some foldable tables. Two have been ordered! The treadmill is indeed an issue when there is someone running fast. By code the home is built on pilings and even though they go extra deep, the treadmill should have been located on the concrete slap on the 1st floor. We are going to find a better spot for the treadmill and install an elliptical in it's place (we do not get any vibration from the peloton bicycle). We appreciate you pointing out the quietness of the rooms. Between each interior wall is a product called "rock wool". While expensive, the idea was that this combined with the special audio system would provide a magical escape: Concert hall quality music while watching a storm and lighting over the ocean (the off season can be magical)! The Kegerator supports a 1/2 Keg (what most people think of as a full keg). Not sure what the issue may have been but we will follow up with the vendor. Glad you liked the "beach closet". "Just returned from Spyglass and LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this home! From the moment we walked in it was WOW! Everything upscale, yet the décor was so cozy! Each bedroom was a beautiful suite with spectacular bathrooms! Amazing kitchen with all upscale appliances! Pool was fantastic. Owner's put much attention to detail in every room making sure everyone's needs were tended to - from the beach to the pool, the exercise room which was used daily to just lounging on their upscale furniture. The outdoor games and ping pong brought the family together every night for friendly competition! Highly recommend this home!!"

Thank you for the review; it makes us very happy to hear that you enjoyed the home. We have been coming to Whalehead for over 20 years. In our mind, Lighthouse Drive is truly the best that the OBX has to offer and the top cover lot is the best in Whalehead! We're all temporary custodians of our little slices of paradise so we are very appreciative of the time looking at the Ocean. We have a new pre-arrival manual that indicates the various beach games that we supply. Along these lines, we appreciate having things in place vs. packing the car! So in addition to the beach Cabana service (daily setup of 6 chairs and some umbrellas) we are now supplying 16 Tommy Bahama Chairs, 4 high-quality boogie boards, and extra umbrellas. Depending on the wind direction, there are either very few or many bugs. We power wash several times a season but will pay closer attention to this as we appreciate the time spent outside!
"I thought we'd stayed in great OBX houses before, including even more expensive rentals, but Spyglass was the best yet. The attention to architectural and construction detail and to providing "all the comforts" was just fine. The house was designed to give the guests the best imaginable appliances, cabinetry, furniture, and of course the views. . And since it was built only 2 years ago, everything was in perfect shape."

Getting everything in place through the pandemic was challenging...for this next season some of the final touches will be in place including the "Spyglass". It's a beautiful tripod mounted WWII 30:1 telescope for dolphin and boat watching!
