"We loved that the house was right on the beach. The location was ideal for our family so close to the shops as well."

"We really enjoyed our stay at Shifting Sands. The location was great, the pool and hot tub were very well kept, and the kitchen was well stocked - the two dish washers were really helpful! The layout was a little strange compared to other homes we have stayed in, but it also helped give us each some private space once we got used to it. Luckily we only had 6 people in our party, otherwise we would not have been able to eat together as the dining table was not very large - there is another smaller table for additional people to eat at though. They also provided very nice beach chairs which we took full advantage of! Overall we would probably stay there again."

"My experience with Shifting Sands was overall positive. The overall cleaning before entering the house was decent. House was made available before check in time which was great! I absolutely loved the location and the area out back was amazing. I brought a canopy to put over the hot tub which worked well to keep the sun off of us as the shade didn't cover the hot tub until well into the late evening. The outdoor cabana and grill were great, the previous tenants did not clean the grill but it was easy enough to clean it before use. Bring a lighter with you as the igniter on the grill doesn't work. One question I had when booking the house was about the bathrooms and how they were laid out, so I will try to do it in my review for future guests. As you enter the house downstairs there is one full bathroom on the lowest level. On the second floor there are two full bathrooms as you come up the stairs. Directly at the top of the stairs is one full bathroom with a door on the hallway side and a door that connects to the room with two bunk beds. There is a second stand alone full bathroom that is just to the left as you come up the stairs. This bathroom is theoretically shared with the one King room and one Queen room. As you go further into the second level there is an additional Queen room and King room that are connected in the middle by a full bathroom. The final bathroom is a half bath on the top floor. For the rooms, the temperatures were drastically different depending on the room you were in. My wife and I were in the king room off to the right as you come up the stairs. This room had little to no air circulation, judging by the lack of a closet and poor airflow I doubt this room was originally designed to be a bedroom. The room with the bunkbeds had similar issues with a lack of airflow. Fortunately we always travel with a fan and it proved useful in this case as the king room had no ceiling fan. The other three rooms were cool with great air circulation. The beds were a bit uncomfortable in all of the rooms so make sure you bring some extra pillows if you can fit them in your car. The pool table downstairs was great, but I'm not sure why they have a TV as it didn't seem to have any cable connected to it, all we could get to show on it was snow. The upstairs area was great, with lots of natural light, a huge kitchen and a decent amount of seating between the table and bar. There was no remote of the sound bar connected to the TV so we took turns adjusting the volume when necessary. Overall I would say the daytime areas of the house, basement rec room, upstairs sitting area and kitchen and especially the outdoor areas were great. I was disappointed in the bathrooms and bedrooms. The house could use a little love and updating, a lot of water damage shows on the walls and ceiling. While for the most part we enjoyed our stay, but I will probably try a different beach house during my next trip to Corolla."

"Shifting Sands had many great amenities such as the pool, hot tub and private walk-way to the beach. The location is great and close to many things in Corolla. Our family really enjoyed our time here. The layout of the home is good ~ including a large kitchen with two dishwashers, lots of pretty decks for ocean views and plenty of room. It does need a few up-dates ~ the most important being new blinds in the bedrooms as they were broken. Also, could use some up-dates in the bathrooms, with some of the bedroom furniture as well as a new kitchen table. Lovely home and with a few much needed up-dates and repairs, I would recommend it."

"Reminds me of a beach house from the 80s in terms of furnishings and just being dated as heck. Everything worked ok outside of a couple doors not locking in the rear. Location is excellent to stores, places to eat. If I were to return I can’t say I would rent this house again but it isn’t bad. Pool is nice."

Diane   ·  Stayed June 2021

"The home is in a great location, close to shops, groceries, beach is great! Home needs some attention to maintenance. Previous water damage was evident. Doors needed to be repaired as two of the doors didn't lock. Upholstered furniture needs to be thoroughly cleaned."
