A beach bonfire can be a beautiful and fun activity to enhance your Outer Banks vacation. Beach bonfires and firepits can pose a threat to vegetation that stabilizes the sand dunes at the beach. Beach bonfires and firepits are allowed in Nags Head by permit only during ideal conditions. Permits can be obtained from the Town’s Fire and Rescue Department between 5:30 pm and 9:00 pm daily. Permits are issued based on current wind and fire danger conditions and are valid until midnight on the day they are issued.
Beach bonfires are never allowed in Kill Devil Hills, Kitty Hawk, Southern Shores, Duck, Corolla, or the 4x4 beaches. Fireworks and sparklers are illegal on all Outer Banks beaches.
